From The City of Tewksbury: The Tewksbury Public Events and Celebrations Committee is pleased to announce that it will be holding a Vintage Baseball Event on Sunday, June 2 at 1:00 PM at Strong Field, Tewksbury Memorial High School, 320 Pleasant Street.

The Essex Base Ball Association will visit Tewksbury to play a doubleheader like it’s 1859. Founded in Danvers, Massachusetts in 2002, the Essex Base Ball Association plays recreational baseball games using the rules, equipment and uniforms from the 19th century. On June 2, the group will bring two of its teams – the Lynn Live Oaks and the Lowell Baseball Nine – to play a double header to show off their vintage swagger.

This is a free event to the public, with picnic-style seating. Don’t forget to bring your own chairs! Fans will enjoy some old-time baseball, light refreshments for purchase, and learn what it was like before the modern day baseball era. “We have played all over [Massachusetts] during the past 17 years and have done a variety of events so I think it will be a lot of fun to play in Tewksbury,” said Brian Sheehy, President of the Essex Base Ball Club. This will be the clubs’ first visits to Tewksbury.
