Wamesit 7th Grader Lose Heartbreaker to Peabody

Fantastic rally by Warriors falls just short.

Warriors 7th   53      Peabody     58

It was a tough loss for the Warriors 7th grade team this weekend in what was a solid game by both teams.

Peabody came out fast and took an early 7-0 lead as the Warriors could not get a shot to drop.  The Warriors needed a spark and Ryan Briggs answered the call scoring 15 points in the first half, jump starting his team to take a 9-point halftime lead 27-18.  Dunlap, Asselin and Derrah combined 6-8 from the free throw line to help with the lead.

Again, the Warriors came out in the second half and quickly gave the ball away 3 times in a row while Peabody took advantage.  Justin Derrah and Andrew White played a tough game against the Peabody center but could not keep him off the boards.  His 25 points would be the key to a Peabody win.

It would end up being great ball movement and patience that allowed Peabody to control the ball and kill the clock while taking an 11 point lead with 3 minutes left in the game.  But the Warriors are never down and never out!  Jack Theriault, Nick Dunlap and Josh Asselin got some key steals feeding Briggs and Derrah to keep the clock from ticking.

With just under a minute to go, the Warriors were down 7 and put in Kevin Vonkahle to sniper in a 3 pointer when needed.  Vonkahle did not dissapoint and drained a 3 with 17 seconds remaining putting the Warriors within 4.  Derrah and Briggs could not drain the foul shots at the end and after fouling,  Peabody drained 1 more important basket and took the wind out of the sails of a miraculous comeback.

Brady Rogers played very well on defense again and Ryan Bain made some key rebounds when needed. Ryan Briggs led the Warriors with 24 points while Derrah scored 11. Also scoring for the Warriors was Theriault (5), Dunlap (6), Vonkahle (5) and Asselin (2).  The Warriors remain in 1st place at this time and face Reading next week at home.
