Eastern Hoops League 7th Grade Championship Game

Wamesit Warriors 59, Peabody 40

The Warriors had a great season this year and played well, but they saved
their best basketball when it counted the most.

In the final game of the season, the Warriors played hard and fast and never gave Peabody a chance to even get into this game.  The Warriors had 10 steals in the first half and held Peabody to just 18 points.  Kevin Vonkahle (7) and Connor MacLean (4) were very tough underneath and pulled down 8 defensive rebounds helping the
warriors to a 33-18 first half lead.

Jack Theriault gave his best effort of the season stealing the ball 3 times and scoring a season high 10 points. Justin "the terrah" Derrah had an MVP game and season and pulled down 10 offensive rebounds of his own and scored a game high 15 points.

But the defense was only half the story. Ryan Briggs (7), Ryan Bain (2), Nick
Dunlap (6) and Josh Asselin (4), had 20 assists and the Warriors passed the
ball around as well as any high school team, reversing the ball quick and
finding teamates wide open showing how unselfish this team is. Brady
Rodgers, the Warriors spark plug, played an amazing game on defense and put
pressure on the Peabody point gaurds.

With 3 minutes left in the game, the Warriors took a 25 point lead, diminishing any hopes of a comeback by Peabody.  Briggs played a very important role in controling the ball and breaking the Peabody press with ease.  Andrew White (2) held off Peabody's best player and after a timeout and adjustment, shut him down and held him to 6 points.

The Warriors made a statement in this game and showed the Town
of Tewksbury that their class on and off the court has represented the town
very well.  Congratulations Warriors 7th grade!  The 7th Grade Warriors will
celebrate at the Celtics game on Wed night at the Garden.  Champions at
last!
