Congratulations to the 8th grade Wamesit Warriors from Tewksbury after completing a perfect season, winning every game, and finishing with a Championship victory, beating a tough Malden team 60-49 in the Division 1 Eastern League playoffs.

The Warriors final record was 23-0. The mark of this great group of young men was defense and rebounding, and the Championship game was no different. The Warriors won the rebounding battle, 44-32, and with less than 2 minutes remaining in a close contest, a steal by Shayne Russell ignited a 6-0 run that turned momentum in the Warriors favor. Russell also added 7 points.

Craig Harkins and Ryan Bednarek played outstanding defense and made Malden work on both ends of the floor. Four Warriors were in double figures scoring, led by Alex DiRocco with 13, Mike Milano with 12, Joe Csokmay with 11, and James Sullivan with 10. Sullivan also added 11 rebounds, Csokmay 6, and Milano 3. Alex Botazzi grabbed 5 rebounds and scored 3 points.

Chris Caron scored 4 points, Derek McGaffigan had 3 steals, and led a team effort in neutralizing Malden’s athletic point guard.

The Warrior coaching staff of Sean Derrah, Todd DiRocco, and Doc DiRocco want to thank the parents for their support and commitment. Special thanks to Mugsy McGaffigan for his help all season.
