GENEALOGY WEEK: Using DNA Testing In Your Genealogy Research

Learn how DNA can help fill in your family trees, confirm relationships, break down brick walls, and suggest new directions for traditional genealogical research. Pedigree maps, chromosome browsers, matrices, and how to use various types of spreadsheets will be introduced as time permits. Led by Dr. Sandy Murray. After a career as a research cell biologist, Murray now works with DNA in a genetic genealogy setting. She is particularly interested in helping genealogists who have received their "DNA results" and "matches" but have no idea how to work with them. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Learn practical and proven Italian family history research strategies from professional genealogist, Jenny Tonks. Italian civil jurisdictions and vital records practices will be discussed. She will focus on Italian emigration to the US, and the relevant demographic patterns that help break through brick walls, and strategies for corresponding directly with Italian jurisdictions and records repositories to find records not available online. Tonks has worked as an Accredited Genealogist for Italian Research for nearly two decades and holds a BA in Family History-Genealogy from Brigham Young and a MA in Literature. Film Screening: Shazam!

Enjoy a screening of one of Hollywood's latest comedies -- Shazam!. We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson's case, by shouting out one word - SHAZAM. - this streetwise fourteen-year-old foster kid can turn into the grown-up superhero Shazam. Stars Zachary Levi and Mark Strong.
