Find out what's happening in Tewksburyfor free with the latest updates from Patch.
Monday, May 11, 7pm
Discover the remarkable stories of some of the most rebellious women in Boston's history. An audacious and determined procession of reformers, socialites, criminals and madams made the city what it is today. One hundred years before Rosa Parks, African American abolitionist Sarah Parker Remond refused to give up her seat while attending a play in Boston. Fiery activists Harriet Hemenway and Minna Hall led a boycott that brought the fashion industry to its knees. Rachel Wall was the last woman to be hanged in Massachusetts after leading a daring life as a robber and pirate. Learn about these historic women -- and many more -- with Dina Vargo, author of "Wild Women of Boston: Mettle and Moxie in the Hub." Vargo has been a lover of history and tri-corn hats since dressing up as Betsy Ross for our nation's bicentennial. She is a volunteer tour guide for Boston By Foot, where she has developed an expertise in and giving "off-beat" walking tours. Dina is also the author of "Hidden History of Boston." She is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and currently resides in Salem. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Register HERE.

Wednesday, May 13, noon
This program is for all ages. This program combines voluntary laughter exercises with gentle breathing techniques to teach the body how to laugh without relying on jokes or humor. This is a participatory program where we will create moments to laugh in through guided actions. No need to bring a yoga mat--most of the program is seated, with options for standing or gentle movement. What are the benefits of laughter? Mood elevates. Stress, depression and tension decrease. Immunity improves. Lung capacity increases through deep breathing, enhancing oxygen delivery to all parts of the body. Endorphin and serotonin levels rise. Where you can see a coconut that saved a President's life? Where a former President, accused of being a traitor, was almost lynched? In this slideshow, audiences will take a 60-minute trip through 200 years of the U.S. Presidency, focusing on the native New Englanders who called the White House home. Visit most of the sites in New England dedicated to our Presidents, including birthplaces, homes, libraries, and -- yes -- even bars. This presentation from David Kruh, author of "Presidential Landmarks," promises a great combination of history and travelogue that will be of interest to both the historically-minded and tourist alike. David has worked at various times - and with varying degrees of success - as a disc jockey, writer, computer programmer, radio producer, engineer, teacher, advertising copywriter, and a spokesperson for Boston's Big Dig highway project, all while performing stand-up and acting in a number of local productions.
