Is Your Voter Status Inactive?

Tewksbury currently has 4,712 inactive voters out of a total of 21,200 registered voters. Voters become inactive if they haven’t returned their 2014 Annual Town Census.

Pursuant to Massachusetts Election Laws, any voter who does not respond to the annual census by the first Monday in June is made inactive and must be sent a confirmation notice by the Town Clerk. This mailing notifies the voter that their name has been removed from the active voting list and has been placed on the inactive voting list and provides the voter with an opportunity to activate themselves by signing the postage prepaid return card and returning it to this office.

On Election Day, inactive voters are allowed to vote, but they must provide ID matching the address listed on the Voter’s List as well as complete an Affirmation form of Current and Continuous Residency. This takes the voter and warden time to complete. With an expected high voter turnout and to save time at the polls, we encourage all voters to check their voter registration status now and fill out a voter’s affirmation form if they discover that they are Inactive.
