It was a full and fun gathering in April. The Lodge voted on where to make charitable donations for 2026. The organizations supported with proceeds from our fundraising include The Doug Flutie Jr Foundation for Autism, The Mission of Deeds, victims of cyclone Harry in Sicily, Beebe Library, North End Museum (opening this summer!), Wakefield Independence Day Committee, WSSC July 4th events, Stoneham Senior Center, Wakefield Council on Aging, PAWS, and others. In addition, we will be announcing the winners of our 2026 scholarships soon!
Also at the April meeting, members were amazed by a film about local hero, Michael Marino. The film documented a daring 2011 rescue by off-duty firefighter Marino in Somerville. Read more about it here.
Have you reserved your ticket to hear local author/historian Stephen Puleo talk about the North End, the Great Molasses Flood and his book, Dark Tide? Tickets are going fast for this May 12 event but are still available by contacting Debbie Tremblay at tremblaydebbie3@gmail.com. Members will provide refreshments, including molasses cookies! It will be held at the West Side Social Club at 4 Harrington Court. Doors open at 5:30 and Mr. Puleo will begin at 6:30 p.m. He will sign copies of his book afterwards.
Some upcoming activities we have planned include bowling, an outing to tulip gardens in May, a picnic at Salem Willows in June and a clambake.
