Here's what we covered at a brief Town Council meeting on Wednesday, June 24:
- The Town Council approved a license for the Boys and Girls Club of Metro North to operate community boating at Lake Quannapowitt this summer.
- In response to a request for an additional street light at the corner of Parker Road and Elm Street, we discussed a process to review street light requests. We agreed to refer this particular requests and all future requests to the Wakefield Municipal Gas and Light Department and the Traffic Advisory Committee for their recommendations, and to hold a hearing to gather public comment. We also will develop a written policy documenting this new process.
- In the event of a potential cyanobacteria algal bloom at Lake Quannapowitt later this summer, the Town Council approved the placement of temporary signage to warn the public against contact with lake water. Swimming already is prohibited at Lake Quannapowitt, and we asked the Health and Human Services Department to review the existing permanent signage and recommend potential changes.
Our next meeting will be on Monday, July 20 at 7:00 PM. And please join us for Wakefield's 4th of July activities next Saturday, including the best parade in the Commonwealth and an impressive fireworks display. Happy Independence Day, Wakefield!
