Treats at Richardson's

The Order Sons & Daughters of Italy in America Wakefield Lodge have been gathering for summer outings and meetings, taking full advantage of the great weather. From outdoor games to eating and socializing, it's been a good month.

Tuesday bocce was occasionally rained out at the Stoneham Senior Center, but there have been many fun games. Some members met at Salem Willows for a picnic, walk and games.Another outing included a raucous round of mini golf followed by ice cream at Richardson's in Middleton. One night, some members met at the Stoneham Common to enjoy an outdoor concert by Lodge favorite, Seabreeze.

The July meeting was held outside at member Rita's beautiful back yard. The Lodge enjoyed catered sandwiches, homemade salads from members and Italian Ice served by our friends at Inspire Café of Wakefield. Nominations for a Trustee were made. In addition, the Lodge recently voted in Kaye Alteiri in the officer role of Treasurer.

Although the 2026 scholarship recipients were unable to attend our July meeting as we hoped, several scholarships were formally awarded at a recent Grand Lodge event. We would like to recognize Joseph Serra of North Reading for being awarded the Bernard and Virginia Horn Memorial Award. In addition, the two recipients of the Phyllis Natola, Dottie Tecce, and Rose Gallagher Memorial Scholarships are Jake Lawler of Stoneham and Marcus Faucon of North Andover. Congratulations and best wishes to all in their next academic endeavors.

Social plans for August include a Lobster Bake in York, Maine! If you would like to learn about the Wakefield Lodge, reach out to President Toni Encarnacao at WakefieldOSIA@gmail.com. Don't forget to follow us on Facebook.
