Crews Battle Massive Fire In Wakefield [UPDATE]

Firefighters dealt with the six-alarm blaze Friday afternoon.

The blaze did cause the building's roof to collapse.

WAKEFIELD, MA — A massive fire resulted in a thick, black cloud of smoke over Wakefield on Friday afternoon, according to WCVB 5-ABC.

Several fire companies responded to extinguish the six-alarm blaze in the area of Foundry Street.

The fire has resulted in the closure of Foundry Street as well as Broadway between North Avenue and Lake Street. North Avenue is also closed between Main Street and West Water Street, according to police.

The fire is "severely affecting" traffic in the area, police said.

The fire is also affecting train service, with the Haverhill Line Train 1249 stopped after Greenwood at 3:30 p.m. and running 20-30 minutes behind schedule, according to the MBTA.

The fire appears to be at a vacant commercial building, WHDH 7-News reported.

The cause of the fire and any injuries are not known.
