Have you wanted to give your children exposure to Italian? Or do you want to read something simple in Italian, yourself? The Wednesday night Italian Conversation Group, who meets at the Beebe Library, noticed there weren't many books in Italian in the children's section. Most of this Group are Order Sons & Daughters of Italy in America Wakefield Lodge members. They decided to change that with a recent donation of children's books, direct from Italy.

One of our members, Dana, traveled to Abruzzo Italy recently and purchased several children's books, carefully selected with the help of local bookstore managers. The collection includes titles which are popular with Italian children and will offer young readers an opportunity to explore the Italian language, stories and culture while experiencing a meaningful connection to Italy.

While at the bookstore, she learned of a program that provides children's books to Italian hospital pediatric wards. Additionally, a book was purchased and donated to the pediatric ward, also as a gift from the Wakefield Lodge. The bookstore staff was moved by the hospital donation and that their recommendations would be part of a library in the United States.

These donations to the Beebe Library reflect the Sons and Daughters of Italy's commitment to celebrating Italian culture, especially during Italian-American Heritage month.

The book titles are: Nonni, mi fate entrare nel vostro cuore?(Grandparents, Will You Let Me Into Your Hearts?), Le mie mani sono le tue ali (My Hands Are Your Wings), Io gomitolo, tu filo, (I'm the Ball of Yarn, You're the Thread), I viaggi di Giovannino Perdigiorno, (The Travels of Giovannino Perdigiorno), Anche i mostri si lavano i denti! (Even Monsters Brush Their Teeth!), Leggi e ascolta, (Read and Listen Disney), Bigio Randagio, (Bigio the Stray), and Animali in fattoria, (Farm Animals).

Remember, if you would like to learn about the Wakefield Lodge, or attend a meeting or activity, reach out to President Toni Encarnacao at WakefieldOSIA@gmail.com. Also, we hope you will follow us on Facebook.

Members offer books to Children's Librarian, Ariel.
The Italian discussion club gathers at 6:30 on some Wednesdays at the Beebe Library.
