Walpole Deputy Chief Ends 18-Year Career, Will Lead Braintree Police

WALPOLE, MA — Walpole's deputy police chief completed his final tour with the police department on Friday, closing an 18-year career with the town.

Deputy Chief Rob Kilroy has been appointed the next chief of the Braintree Police Department, according to a Walpole police announcement. He leaves Walpole after serving as the department's executive officer since his promotion to deputy chief in 2022.

Kilroy held assignments as a field training officer, crime prevention officer and detective during his Walpole career. He also served as a certified police academy instructor in several subjects.

He was also assigned to the MetroLEC Computer Crime Unit and became a recognized expert in computer crime, according to Walpole police. While working as a detective, he held leadership positions on multiple regional task forces.

Kilroy was promoted to detective sergeant in 2015 and lieutenant in 2017 before becoming deputy chief five years later.

He also received the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association's Leadership Trilogy Award. The recognition is given to law enforcement professionals who complete the organization's Supervisor Leadership Institute, Command Leadership Institute and Executive Leadership Institute.

Walpole police credited Kilroy with leading the department's completion of the International Association of Chiefs of Police One Mind Campaign, an initiative focused on improving interactions between officers and people with mental health conditions or intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The Braintree Police Department will welcome Chief Kilroy at an official swearing-in ceremony on Monday at Braintree Town Hall's Cahill Auditorium at 5 p.m.
