Try out one of these places Thursday to celebrate National Sandwich Day. The holiday celebrates John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich, who inadvertently invented the timeless classic.

According to website Days of the Year, Montagu was an avid card player and ordered his meat between slices of bread to avoid the spreading of grease on his cards. Once others caught wind, they began ordering their food, "The Same as Sandwich."
