WALTHAM, MA — Waltham has 50 new voters. Every year, officials from City Clerk's office head over to the high school to talk with students about civics. Monday, City Clerk Robert Waddick and Assistant City Clerk Joe Vizard chatted about the merits of voting locally to a room full of students and then helped them register to vote.

And if you're wondering if each vote counts — it's not unusual in the city for city council members or school committee members to win or lose by fewer than 100 votes.

If you haven't registered to vote yet, the last day to register for the general vote is Oct. 16. Election Day is Nov. 5. If you're interested in voting in the preliminary election — where if more than two people are running for office voters winnow it down to two — you have to register by August 28.
