Akshaya Patra's Annual Boston Gala: 'Sports and Philanthropy'

Desh Deshpande, Indian-American philanthropist and chairman of Akshaya Patra USA, says that educating a child can change for a family its economic condition, reported INDIA New England News, as Akshaya Patra USA prepares for its annual fundraiser gala on Saturday, June 13, at the Westin Hotel in Waltham.

The Annual Boston Gala, which starts at 6:30 p.m., features a panel discussion on “sports and philanthropy” led by ESPN SportsCenter anchor Kevin Negandhi and Linda Henry, director of the Red Sox Foundation and the Liverpool Football Club Foundation. Tom Ashbrook, award-winning host of “On Point” on NPR and WBUR Boston, moderates.

INDIA New England News reports that 400 guests from around the region are expected to attend and “support the organization’s dual mission of addressing childhood hunger and malnutrition and advancing education for underprivileged children in India.”

Akshaya Patra’s meal program serves more than 1.4 million children daily in more than 10,770 schools from 24 kitchens in ten states in India.
