Artists on the Common at Waltham Day

Oil painting, mask making to promote Open Studios

The Waltham Artist's Association brought art making to the Common for the 2019 Waltham Day. Lucia Deleiris and brought an easel and painted on small wood panels, while children made their own masks. A brisk breeze and showers didn't deter the artists, who encourage everyone to attend Waltham Open Studios on November 2 and 3, 2019.

"It's is a great way to invite everyone to Open Studios," Wendy Wolf, artist and assistant coordinator. "While the Waltham Artist's Association has held this event every year since 1976, we try to make sure everyone marks the first weekend of November on their calendar."

Wolf created a series of masks inspired by animals who live along the Charles River. Kids (and some adults) colored, cut out and tied yarn to the masks, which many wore as they visited the next booth. Raccoons, mink and great blue herons were the most popular mask choices.

While activity at the booth calmed down during the showers, the artists were there for the renewed energy as the weather improved.

The Waltham Artists Association invites everyone to visit art where it's made on November 2 and 3. This free, annual event includes more than 70 artists in three historic buildings in the heart of Waltham. Tour the studios, enjoy family friendly activities and live music, and attend artist demos.
