Award-Winning Young Adult Author to Visit Waltham Middle Schools

Kristin Levine, author of Waltham summer reading book "The Lions of LIttle Rock," will stop by McDevitt and Kennedy next week.

WALTHAM, MA – An award-winning young adult novelist will stop by Waltham middle schools next week to discuss her book at the center of students' summer reading assignment.

Kristin Levine, author of "The Lions of Little Rock," will speak at McDevitt Middle School the morning of Wed., Sept. 21 and appear at Kennedy Middle that afternoon.

"The Lions of Little Rock" was the summer reading book for all middle school students as part of Waltham Public Schools' inaugural Two Schools, One Story program.

Set in Arkansas in 1958, "The Lions of Little Rock" tells the story of two 12-year-old girls willing to take on segregation in order to remain friends. Levine's novel was highly acclaimed and scooped up a New York Historical Society Children’s History Book Prize in addition to being named a New York Times Book Review Editor's Choice.
