Belmont Savings Opens First Waltham Branch

Belmont-based launches new branch at Waltham Shaw's with supermarket's president.

on Friday, June 1 celebrated the opening of its new in-store branch at Shaw’s Supermarket at 1070 Lexington St. in Waltham during a ribbon cutting ceremony alongside Waltham Mayor Jeannette McCarthy and Shaw’s Supermarkets President Mike Stigers.

Shaw’s Supermarkets President Mike Stigers paid tribute to the Bank’s history of quality service and likened Belmont Savings Bank to Shaw’s, calling both “two great institutions” that each “have well over 100 years of experience in New England.”

“We welcome Belmont Savings Bank officially and look forward to long-term partnership and growth,” he added.

Also, as part of the launch, branch manager Morgan Cambern created a Twitter account for the new branch. The Twitter account is used to promote upcoming events and specialty deals in the community.

The new facility, staffed with five members and a business banking officer, is a full service bank branch and features two ATMs and a night deposit drop off for businesses. The branch is open six days a week with extended hours: Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Opening an in-store supermarket branch is the latest in a series of announcements by Belmont Savings to provide customers with increased convenience and technology competitive with the largest banks.

During the bank’s conversion from a mutual bank to a stock-ownership holding company last summer, branch growth was listed in the bank’s prospectus. The Waltham branch continues the bank's planned expansion of its branch network, bringing the total number of branches in the Belmont-Watertown-Waltham area to five. Bank officials pointed to the in-store branch as the next logical step for the bank.

As a gesture indicating their commitment to the community, the Bank presented Bristol Lodge Soup Kitchen with a check for $500. Laurie Lindstrom, chief operating officer of Bristol Lodge, was on-hand to receive the check.
