Bentley Freshman Putting Together Stellar Hoops Season

Guard Niya Morgen was named the Northeast-10's rookie of the week for the fourth time, continuing an impressive freshman campaign.

WALTHAM, MA — For the fourth time this season, Bentley University freshman guard Niya Morgen (Swampscott/St. Mary’s HS) has been named the Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference.

Morgen continued her solid rookie season by averaging 10.5 points and two rebounds during a 2-0 week for the Falcons. She made seven of 11 shots overall (.636), two of three from deep and all five of her free throws. In a 67-50 win over American International, Morgen netted 15 points off the bench with her 5-of-7 shooting including two three-pointers. In addition, she did not commit a turnover while playing 43 minutes in the two games.

Morgen, who is third on the team with a 9.9 scoring average, has had a strong shooting season in her first collegiate season. She leads the NE10 in three-point accuracy (.545), is third in field goal percentage (.532) and has made 86 percent of her foul shots.

Bentley, ranked 11th in Division II, is 16-2 overall and a conference-best 11-1 after winning its last eight.
