Bentley Volleyball Makes History With Elite 8 Birth

The Falcons got the program's first NCAA East Regional championship over the weekend, and will seek to advance further on Thursday.

WALTHAM, MA — The Bentley University volleyball team made history over the weekend, and hopes to make some more on Thursday.

Bentley volleyball gained its first NCAA East Region victory on Saturday when the Falcons defeated Daemen in four sets. The team beat Southern New Hampshire and Mercy on its way to the regional championship, which Adelphi hosted.

Now, Bentley is set to head to Pittsburgh, Penn., ahead of a Thursday Elite 8 matchup against Tampa, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the UPMC Events Center at Robert Morris University.

The teams played earlier this year, when Tampa was ranked fourth in the country. The Falcons lost that matchup in four sets.

In the regional, Jazzy Burke, Ingrid Murphy and Ellie Wheeler were named to the All-Regional Tournament Team. This comes after Murphy and Wheeler were also named to the All-NE10 First Team for the second consecutive year, the third straight year for Wheeler.

According to the school's athletic department, Bentley reached the Sweet 16 for the second time in school history when it beat Mercy during the second round of the NCAA D-II Championship. The Falcon's only previous appearance was in 2005, when the Falcons lost to Dowling in five sets.
