Discover Waltham Distributes 'Welcome to Waltham'
Discover Waltham distributes to Brandeis, Bentley and CFDA students.

Every fall, up to 2,000 new students arrive in Waltham to continue their studies at Brandeis and Bentley Universities as well as The Center for Digital Arts.
This year, Discover Waltham is launching the “Welcome to Waltham” initiative by providing welcome packages to these students which include promotions from locally owned businesses; information about Waltham landmarks; and information on how they can become involved with local community service agencies or make use of the resources available in the Watch City to all its residents, said an announcement.
For example, literature from the Waltham Philharmonic Orchestra, the Waltham Arts Council, REACH Beyond Domestic Violence and the Waltham Land Trust will be included. Several businesses will also provide menus, literature and/or special coupon offers. Included in the kits will be a welcome letter from Mayor Jeanette McCarthy. “Realizing that this may be the first time you are living away from home, we would like to help you with this transition and make you aware of the many resources and educational and recreational opportunities Waltham has to offer,” said the major in a statement.

Waltham resident John Nalewski and Chris Hakobyan, partners in Discover Waltham, have invited any Waltham business or organization to participate in this initiative. “The people at Discover® Card have provided us with 1,000 tote bags to package these kits,” noted Hakobyan in an announcement, “and we are seeking 1,000 additional bags or totes to package the remaining half of the kits. We’re gratified by the positive response we’ve received from Waltham businesses and organizations to this project thusfar.”
“Waltham is a welcoming community and these kits will highlight much of what we have to offer our new students,” Nalewski stated, “Any locally owned businesses who would like to include information and/or offers to students are welcome to contact us at community@discoverwaltham.us. The deadline for submitting materials to the kits is Tuesday, August 25 so that we can have them ready for distribution on August 29.”
