Auditions at Hovey Players: "Private Lives" by Noel Coward

Hovey Players continues it's 75th Season with Noel Coward's classic comedy "Private Lives."  The production will be directed by Ronni Marshak.  Auditions will be held  Sunday, March 13th at 2:00pm and Monday, March 14th at 7:00pm, with possible callbacks on Thursday, March 17th at 7:00pm.  The performance dates are May 13 – May 28, 2011.

Casting will depend heavily on how actors pair against one another and on how well they take direction.  No Monologues required; just cold readings from the script.  Will require British accents (except Louise, the French maid).

Play description: Divorcees Elyot and Amanda unwittingly book adjoining rooms while honeymooning with their new spouses – Sybil and Victor. Realizing a pair of mistaken marriages, Elyot and Amanda attempt to escape their mismatched partners together. They flee their honeymoon accommodations and unsuspecting spouses in resume their romance in Amanda’s secluded Paris flat, only to be discovered several days later by their jilted lovers.

Roles:

Amanda Prynne - a beautiful second-time bride with a fiery temper and a tendency toward impulsive behavior. Mid to late 30s. Requires great comic timing and some physical comedy ability.

Sibyl Chase - An attractive, somewhat innocent twenty-three year-old, first-time bride who is more than a little threatened by her new husband's first wife. Early 20s. Can be something of a prude.

Elyot Chase - Sibyl's new husband and Amanda's ex, has an acidic wit that he brandishes regardless of the situation. Mid to late 30s. Requires great comic timing and some physical comedy ability.

Victor Prynne - Amanda's second husband who is very pleased to describe himself as “normal” meaning conservative and something of a young fuddy duddy. Late 20s.

Louise – a maid. Small part (2 lines in French)
