School of Fashion Design

Celebrating over 90 years of excellence in fashion education, The School of Fashion Design is the only educational institution in New England dedicated exclusively to the study of fashion design. SFD provides students with a solid foundation in apparel design and construction, and the skills required for a successful career in fashion. Our technical Certificate program is taught by experts in the field of fashion design. Students may take courses toward the Certificate or on a class-by-class basis to fill professional education interests. For creatives and textile arts enthusiasts, SFD offers workshops in various fiber arts such as weaving, lace making, embroidery, millinery, upcycling, and more. As an SFD student, you will join a diverse community of emerging designers. Our studios are filled with recent high school graduates, students from nearby colleges enriching their education with fashion, and working professionals embarking on a new career path. SFD faculty and students are active partners in our local community, collaborating regularly with organizations and businesses through internships, exhibitions, field trips, and special events. Our reputation for excellence is on display each time our students show their work at fashion shows and exhibits throughout the year. With an SFD Certificate in Fashion Design, our alumni have enjoyed fashion careers with Adidas, Coldwater Creek, J. Jill, New Balance, PUMA, Ralph Lauren, Talbots, Timberland, TJX Companies, and more. Our alumni are designers and costumers for stage and screen, while others have found success launching their own label. Our varied class levels and flexible schedules are designed to meet the needs and profiles of all students. So whatever your level, background, or educational goals, we invite you to schedule a tour to see yourself at The School of Fashion Design. New semesters begin September, January, and June. Your fashion education begins here!

Friends Beyond Boston-A Member-led Community Group

Friends Beyond Boston (FBB) is a member-led social community established in April 2017 to help adults in their 20s, 30s, 40s, and beyond build genuine, in-person friendships and find community closer to home. Founded in Waltham, Massachusetts, FBB began by bringing people together in Waltham and surrounding communities and has since expanded its reach to include members throughout Massachusetts beyond the Boston metro area. FBB is about more than meeting people at events. It's about making it easier to build meaningful connections where you live. Through member-led events and local leadership, members can help create opportunities to meet people, explore shared interests, and develop friendships in their own towns and nearby communities. FBB is more than a calendar of events. It is a community that members help shape and build together. Members are encouraged to contribute in whatever ways fit their interests, time, and capacity, whether that's suggesting an event idea, helping at a gathering, volunteering for one of our member roles, or hosting an event themselves with support from the FBB community. There is no expectation that everyone contribute in the same way; the goal is to create a community where people can participate and contribute in ways that work for them. This member-led approach also allows FBB to reach beyond the Waltham area. Members in other parts of Massachusetts can volunteer as Local Leaders, organizing FBB events closer to where they live and helping create community closer to home. Local Leaders take an active role in building connections in their area, while FBB provides the foundation they've already needed to create: an established community, infrastructure, event and communication tools, templates and resources, guidance, and the support of an existing network. Our calendar includes a mix of casual, low-pressure gatherings designed to make meeting people feel natural, including coffee socials, brunches, shared meals, brewery outings, silent reading hours, outdoor activities, and other member-driven events. Because members help shape what we do, the community continues to evolve with the interests of the people who are actually part of it. At its heart, Friends Beyond Boston is about creating opportunities for people to get out from behind their screens, meet the people around them, and build real friendships close to home. We are a non-dating social community focused on connection, participation, and creating welcoming spaces where people can feel comfortable showing up and getting involved. Membership is supported by a modest annual dues model that helps keep the community active, organized, and accessible. Clear community guidelines and an emphasis on respectful, inclusive social environments help create a space where members can connect with confidence. Whether you simply want to come to events, have an idea you'd like to bring to life, volunteer for a member role, host an event, or become a Local Leader and help build community in another part of Massachusetts, there is a place for you at Friends Beyond Boston. We also have a sister group, Raíces Latinas ~ Waltham Social, a Spanish-language community for adults in Waltham and MetroWest to connect through friendship, culture, and shared language. 🌿Check it out: https://raiceslatinas.walthamsocial.com/
