Stress is a major risk factor for many chronic illnesses including cardiovascular disease, cancer, and Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). Caregiver stress is fast becoming a critical health issue in our society. High levels of stress, as experienced by millions caring for family members suffering from AD and other chronic and debilitating diseases, is associated with higher incidences of cardiovascular disease, depression, cancer, and mortality. Symptoms of caregiver stress include: sleeplessness, poor concentration, depression, social withdrawal, anxiety, exhaustion, health problems, and irritability.
This workshop will be a combination of presentation and practice. Learn about the physiology of stress, and what medical research shows about the therapeutic benefits of yoga lifestyle.

INSTRUCTOR: Miguel Rivera, MD, is the Medical Director for Mental Health and Well-Being at seven assisted living and long term care facilities in Sarasota, FL. He pioneers a holistic approach in the prevention and management of cognitive loss and dementia. Dr. Rivera lectures extensively nationally and internationally on the evidence-based health benefits of yoga lifestyle, and its connection with cognitive well being and lowering the risk of dementia.
