Farming in Waltham

You may not associate Waltham with farming, but agricultural production has always been a significant part of the city’s history. In this illustrated lecture, Sonja Wadman, program director of the Waltham Land Trust, reveals how farming has been a part of Waltham's landscape since the 1600s. Discover the history and potential future of one of America's oldest family farms, located less than two miles from the Lyman Estate. Sally Zimmerman, senior preservation services manager at Historic New England, highlights how the Lyman family worked the landscape of their expansive property throughout their 150 years of ownership. Amanda Cather, farm manager of Waltham Fields Community Farm, discusses current farming at the Lyman Estate. After the presentations, tour the historic Lyman Estate Greenhouses and see the property's fields currently in agricultural production.
