Fire at Fernald Campus Being Treated as 'Suspicious': Report
The blaze was contained to a first-floor room of the abandoned building.

WALTHAM, MA – Police and fire officials are treating a blaze at the former Fernald State School in Waltham as "suspicious," according to a Waltham News Tribune report.
The fire began around 1:15 p.m. and was upgraded to two alarms 15 minutes later; it was contained to a room on the first floor of the North Building, Waltham Fire Chief Paul Ciccone told the News Tribune.
According to the website, the blaze likely fed on books and papers left behind in the building, though nothing historic appears to have been damaged.

Ciccone told the News Tribune the incident is being treated as "suspicious."
Patch reached out to a fire official in Waltham, who did not return a request for comment.
