Get Out: Wine Tasting, Dancing, and Concerts

It's Thursday, and you have no idea what to do this weekend. Patch is coming to the rescue. We have the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check out our picks for activities to do and new places to explore.

  • Where/When:  Gordon’s Fine Wine & Liquors, Waltham, Friday, 6:30 pm.- 8 p.m.
  • Why Go:  Relax a bit and end your work week by sampling some wines from Chateau St. Jean.  Registration is required so call ahead.
  • Pricing: $15

 

  • Where/When: Armenian Cultural and Educational Center, Watertown, Friday, 7:30 p.m.
  • Why Go:  The music is upbeat and energetic.  The band is currently on their East Coast tour celebrating Armenia's 20th anniversary of their Independence.
  • Pricing: $35

  • Where/When:  Hovey Players, Waltham, Friday and Saturday, 8 p.m.
  • Why Go:  Theater fans will enjoy this powerful performance of “Bent,” written by Martin Sherman.  Plus, you can join the Hovey Players on opening night (Friday) for a complimentary wine and cheese reception.
  • Pricing: $16, $14 seniors/students.

  • Where/When:  St. James Armenian Apostolic Church, Watertown, Saturday, 8 p.m.- midnight.
  • Why Go:  Take a swing dance lesson from 8 p.m.- 9 p.m., then dance the night away to the sounds of Gordon Webster.  As an added bonus, 10 CD’s given away at the dance, to celebrate Webster's new CD “Live in Philadelphia.”
  • Pricing: $15, $10 for students.

  • Where/When:  Church of Good Shepherd, Watertown, Sunday 7 p.m.- 9 p.m.
  • Why Go:  The Boston String Quartet will perform their own arrangements of jazz, rock, and classical music.  The quartet is considered to be a creative leader in contemporary classical music in the New England area.
  • Pricing: $15
