'Ghostbusters' Starts Filming in Waltham This Week

It's not something strange in the neighborhood. It's cool.

If you’re wondering about the postings to keep off areas in and around the Paine Estate, or “Stonehurst,” here’s why.

Melissa McCarthy is starring in the remake of the ‘80s blockbuster Ghostbusters, which has been filming around Boston this summer, and they are shooting some scenes at the estate in Waltham this week, reported the Waltham Channel.

The Waltham said a large white tent and production vehicles were spotted around the property, along with movie “code name” signs,” and added that police are patrolling the area to make sure visitors stay off the property.

Directed by Paul Feig, Ghostbusters also lists Dan Akyroyd as one of the scriptwriters, as well as Bill Murray on the cast list, according to imdb.com. Andy Garcia also makes an appearance as the town’s mayor, and Chris Hemsworth plays “Kevin” alongside McCarthy’s “Abby Yates.”

Located off Beaver Street at 100 Robert Treat Paine Drive, the estate, dubbed “Stonehurst” sits on 109 acres of conservation land.

The Paine family chose the name Stonehurst for their country home, which was completed in 1886.
