Major Water Main Break in Waltham

• Update: Waltham police reported River Street and Seyon and Farwell Streets are now open. North street in Newton was reopened Tuesday night but motorists are urged to use caution. Pleasant street in Watertown has also been reopened. The area of the leak is still under construction. See the most recent photo of the scene HERE.

WALTHAM, MA- There was a major water main break at the intersection of River and Seyon Streets. Pleasant and North Street were completely blocked, according to the City of Waltham’s official Twitter page. Motorists were urged to find alternate routes.

The leak reported Tuesday has been isolated and is not expected to interrupt water service, according to the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority.

“The water main leak on River Street at Seyon Street in Waltham has been isolated. Water service to customers is not affected; however, traffic has been impacted,” they wrote in a new release.

The incident may have been accompanied by a gas leak, according to reports.

Newton police tweeted that North street heading into Waltham will be closed for between four and six hours.

For approx. 4-6 hours North St. (heading into Waltham) will be closed due to activity in Waltham. Residents of Newton will be allowed in.

Watertown police said Pleasant street is closed to all non-residents.

WBZ reported Hazmat was also in Waltham investigating a suspicious odor in a rooming house.The incident appears to be unrelated. A Twitter account claiming to represent the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Hazmat Technicians reported the incident is related to a drug lab.
