Healthy Waltham Raises Over $13K For New Market Space

Through a campaign on "Giving Tuesday", Healthy Waltham garnered dozens of donations for the new Healthy Waltham Community Market.

WALTHAM, MA — On "Giving Tuesday", one longstanding Waltham organization was feeling the love indeed.

Healthy Waltham has been a staple in the community for their work in preventing and aiding those who face food insecurity.

Now, in advancing that cause, the organization is opening the Healthy Waltham Community Market at 123 Felton St.

"It’s a place where families in need can come 'shop' for the fresh fruits and vegetables, meat and dairy products and pantry staples that best serve their households, all in a supermarket-style setting," officials said.

"They’ll book appointments that suit their work and caregiving schedules – and there will be no more lining up outdoors for long periods in blistering heat or icy rain."

A major issue the organization faces currently is getting the new space ready to open, as officials describe the building as a "fixer-upper."

That's where "Giving Tuesday" came into play.

Healthy Waltham created an online fundraiser to gather money for the buildout. The organization found a "match partner" in BXP, which agreed to double all donations to the cause.

As of Wednesday afternoon, 66 people donated to the cause, which has raised $13,800, surpassing the organization's goal of $10,000.
