The Waltham Land Trust is currently recruiting volunteers to assist with maintaining select trails and parks in Waltham. On Saturday, April 13, the group is hoping to train a total of about twenty-five volunteers who will essentially serve as the "eyes and ears" of the Western Greenway Trail, Hardy Pond, Wellington Fields, and the soon-to-be Mass Central Rail Trail, as well as the paths along the Charles River, in Prospect Hill Park, and in the state-owned Beaver Brook reservations. After being trained and “processed,” these volunteers will work in conjunction with either the Mass Department of Conservation and Recreation (if stewarding along the Charles, the Mass Central Rail Trail, or in Beaver Brook North or Historic Reservations) or the City of Waltham’s Recreation Department (if at Prospect Hill Park or Wellington Fields).
Ideally, stewards are at least 18 years old (or with parent who has also been trained) and must commit to walking designated sections of the trails on a regular basis (frequency depending on season) for a period of at least two years. Living proximate to one’s desired stewarding location is a big plus.
