How Irish is Waltham?

Turns out, not as Irish as you might think.

WALTHAM, MA – The Boston Globe this week released census data officially labeling Massachusetts the most Irish state in America. No surprise there. What may come is a shock is how un-Irish the greater Boston area is.

According to the Globe, the South Shore of Massachusetts dominates the state in Irish ancestry, with Marshfield taking the top spot at a whopping 46.4 percent. Comparatively, Boston had 14.3 percent of residents who say they're a bit Irish.

In Waltham, 19.1 percent of residents claim Irish ancestry, according to the data.
