ICYMI: Waltham to Dedicate City Square to Fallen Navy SEAL, Local Hero

Brian Ouellette was killed in Afghanistan in 2004.

WALTHAM, MA – A Navy SEAL from Waltham will be honored this month with a square dedication in his honor. Navy Boatswain’s Mate 1st Class Brian Ouellette and three other special forces soldiers were killed in Afghanistan on May 29, 2004. He was 37.

According to the Waltham Channel, Ouellette was a 1985 graduate of Waltham High School and played linebacker for the Hawks' football team. He enlisted in the Navy five years later and became a SEAL in 1991. He earned a Purple Heart and Bronze Star during his service.

The City of Waltham will dedicate a square to Ouellette at the Waltham Common on Saturday, May 20. The ceremony will last from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the corner of Elm and Carter streets.

"It is time we give honor and respect to Brian and his family for the ultimate sacrifices they’ve given for our Freedom," the City of Waltham wrote. "The City of Waltham and the Ouellette Family extend this invitation to all who would like to gather and be a part of this patriotic event."
