Joseph Conzo, Waltham Firefighter for Nearly 30 Years, Dies at 83
Conzo was born in Newton and a member of the Army National Guard. Services are this week.

Waltham, MA -- Mr. Joseph R. Conzo of Waltham died Sunday, December 6, 2015 in the Epoch Senior Healthcare Center in Weston. He was 83. Mr. Conzo was born in Newton on September 17, 1932, a son of the late Pasquale and Dorothy (Borthwick) Conzo.
Joseph was a firefighter for the City of Waltham from January of 1959 to January of 1988. For most of his career, he was the Deputy Chief’s driver. Joseph was a member of the Firefighters Union, Local 866 and the local firefighter representative for the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon.

He was a member of the Army National Guard. For many years, Joseph worked as well for the Charlesbank Estates as a custodian until his retirement.
He was the husband of the late Carol A. (DeWolfe) Conzo and the brother of the late Leo Conzo, Pasquale “Pat” Conzo, and Elizabeth Malkofski.

Joseph is survived by his children, Steven R. Conzo and his wife, Dorothy, Gary J. Conzo, Sharan L. Hawkes and her husband, John, all of Waltham and Alan J. Conzo and his wife, Susan, of Framingham; his grandchildren, Wendy J. Santana and her husband, Paul, Adam J. Conzo and his wife, Maureen, LeeAnn P. Conzo, Alice R. Hawkes, Brodie A. Hawkes, and Caroline M. Hawkes; his great grandson, Connor Conzo and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Joseph’s life by gathering for calling hours on Thursday, December 10th, from 4-8 pm in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, (Rte. 20), Waltham, and again on Friday at 9:30 am before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am. Burial will follow in Grove Hill Cemete
