On Saturday, March 21, ScoutsBSA Troop 248 in Waltham took on the Western Greenway through Waltham, Lexington, and Belmont.
A camping trip previously scheduled for this weekend was cancelled due to the Covid-19 outbreak, so instead the troop leadership opted to follow the national guidelines for scouting during the crisis. A small group of 6 scouts and 3 adults spread out along the trail, and did our best to maintain 'social distancing' as we hiked the 7-mile distance.
While we were alone most of the way, a random jogger or cyclist passed by headed in the opposite direction. As we reached the end of the trail near Rock Meadow in Belmont, more widely-separated groups appeared on the trail.

A fine time was had by all - and Troop 248 will continue to work on small-group day hikes or other similar events as long as we are able. We are still scouting as best as we can, and you can certainly join the fun. While we're currently not meeting routinely, you can still reach out to troop leadership and join us for some outdoor activities!
