This past Veteran's Day, ScoutsBSA Troop 248 had weekend #1 of their annual "Pay it Forward" fundraiser. Two teams of scouts, led by adult Scouter volunteers, fanned out across Waltham and assisted seniors in need by raking and bagging leaves in their yards.
This annual event is part of a longstanding fundraiser for Troop 248. The program has three primary benefits:
- First, and most important, it gives the Scouts an opportunity to serve the community by helping Waltham seniors in need.
- Second, it fosters leadership skills as it instills the practice of community service, both of which are core elements of the Boy Scout mission.
- Finally, this program helps the boys raise money to underwrite numerous Scouting activities throughout the year.
Work will continue - we are scheduled for a second work day on Saturday, November 23. We will once again be organizing work crews to complete this service project.
