Looking to Get Rid of Old Electronics? Here's How to Recycle Them in Waltham

Capitol Waste will pick up TVs, computer monitors and other household appliances for recycling.

WALTHAM, MA – We've all upgraded to a new television, bought a sleek new laptop or invested in a high-tech washer and dryer. But what do you do with the old one?

For Waltham residents, disposing of old or unwanted electronics and household appliances is relatively easy. Capitol Waste offers pickup of these items in Waltham for recycling.

Here's a look at how to dispose of unwanted appliances, via the Waltham Recycling Department:

Electronics

• Capitol Waste will pick up TV and computer monitors by appointment only and must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance. To schedule a pick-up, call 617-569-1718.

• Residents must place items on the curb themselves. TV and computer monitors are required to be recycled, as they are hazardous.

• For all other items, Best Buy will accept them free of charge. Visit bestbuy.com, click on the "Services" tab, and then check out "Recycle your old products" for more information. Electronics that cannot be recycled may be thrown out.

Appliances

• Major appliances may also be recycled with Capitol Waste. This includes washers, dryers, metal cabinets, refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners.

• Pick-ups must be scheduled by 3:30 p.m. the day before. To schedule a pick-up, call 617-569-1718.

• Note that all doors must be removed from refrigerators and freezers, and the items must be placed on the curb by 7 a.m.

• When you purchase a new appliance, ask the company if they can pick up the old one when they deliver it.
