More Parking May Be Coming to the Waltham Senior Center

The plan involves using parcels of land owned by the city and demolishing an old service station.

WALTHAM, MA – The William F. Stanley Senior Center may be getting new parking spaces, and the scuttlebutt around town is they're needed – badly.

Marybeth Duffy, director of the center, told the Waltham News Tribune that a common complaint is people being forced to head home because they couldn't find parking. According to the Tribune, there are currently 40 parking spots.

That's close to changing.

Reports say at a public meeting last week several residents spoke in favor of adding additional parking, a plan that would involve parcels of land recently purchased by the city. One, at 9 Newton Street, is a vacant lot purchased in December 2014; the other, at the corner of Main and Newton, currently houses an old service station, the Tribune reported.

The number of additional parking spaces remains to be seen, as plans could involve creating a park or open space on one of the lots for seniors to use.
