Motivated Waltham Mom Laces Up In The Fight Against Diabetes
Waltham native Stacey Campbell has teamed up with Joslin Diabetes Center to run the 2019 Boston Marathon
Stacey Campbell will be running herfirst Boston Marathon this April as a member of #TeamJoslin to support Joslin Diabetes Center, the world-renowned diabetes treatment and research facility in Boston. The Waltham native says her motivation comes from her 7-year-old son, Cam, who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was 15 months.
“There Cam was, just beginning his life and with his diagnosis he would have a life that included daily injections, finger pricks, overnight monitoring, quarterly checkups...basically a lifetime of nonstop medical concern and care,” Stacey said.
As a patient at Joslin, Cam hasn’t let his diagnosis slow him down.

“He is a true warrior through and through,” Stacey said.
With the help of Cam’s doctors, Stacey and her son have learned how he can live his best life with the disease while keeping active and healthy.

“Diabetes has never slowed our family down,” Stacey said, “in fact, we continue to advocate for everyone who has this disease, for the best care available and research toward a cure; and we believe Joslin offers both."
Stacey is running on their marathon team this year but her family and Joslin teamed up years ago to support her son and all other kids and adults living with this disease.
Stacey is focusing on tough training before the big day and says every mile she runs is for her son, “I personally, will keep running and raising funds until there is a world of Type None.”
Stacey is holding several fundraisers in her town of Waltham, Massachusetts to help meet her goal
of $7,500. “I hope and pray that every dollar raised will help the researchers at Joslin gain one
more step toward finding a cure,” Stacey said.
