New Ramen And Sushi Bar To Open In Waltham

Hakata Ramen and Sushi Bar opened in 2015 in Quincy, then last year in Back Bay. They are slated to open later this year.

WALTHAM, MA — For those wondering when the ramen trend was going to hit Waltham, well, your wondering can be answered with this: A Japanese restaurant called Hakata Ramen and Sushi Bar is slated to move into the spot once occupied by Sabatino’s Italian Kitchen.

Last week, Waltham's license commission approved Hakata Ramen and Sushi Bar for a common victualer’s license.

The 895 Main St spot will be Hakata Ramen's third location in the Boston area. The owners (Owners Simon Su and Jing Zhang) are the husband-wife team behind the restaurant. Su is also part-owner of Hakata Ramen in Quincy which opened in 2015 and then last summer in Boston's Back Bay on Mass Ave near Berklee.

On the menu is something called Tonkotsu Ramen, a style with broth made from pork bones. They also have a vegetable version according to the Quincy menu. And a tomato soup vegan base, according to the Back Bay menu. They will also be serving Sushi Lunch box specials, including spicy tuna rolls.

Prices appear to be mainly between $8 and $15.

The Waltham Cable Access Channel reported the co-owner said he hoped to open the 60-seat restaurant by the end of March.

In the meantime where in Waltham can you get a bowl of ramen now that you're thinking about it? Umi Fine Japanese & Asian Cuisine has it on their menu, as does Sakura Japanese Restaurant.
