Mr. Einar L. “Bud” Johnson, of Waltham, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014, at Blaire House in Milford. He was 89.
Bud was born on June 10, 1925, in Portland, Oregon, a son of the late Einar F. and Margaret F. (Smith) Johnson. He was raised and educated in Roseburg, Oregon, and joined the U.S Navy six months after the attack at Pearl Harbor and served stateside and in the Pacific until the end of World War II. Bud served aboard ships at sea and participated at the Battle of Attu Island, the only fighting of the war that occurred on American territory. He also saw action at the Philippines, Formosa and at Okinawa, the final battle of the war.

After his marriage to Waltham native Madeline E. Blunt, the couple settled in Waltham to raise their family. Bud and Madeline and their family were longtime members of First Lutheran Church.
Until his retirement in 1988, Bud worked as a machinist for the J. L. Thomson Company. He also spent 37 years working for the Kirsch Real Estate office in Waltham.

Bud’s wife, Madeline, died Jan. 17, 2007.
He leaves his children, Christine E. Barrington of Waltham, Dale E. Johnson of Milford and David D. Johnson of Lenoir, North Carolina; his grandchildren, Melissa Huddleston, David Johnson Jr., Kevin Scott Johnson, John Barrington, Julie Barrington, Michael Einar Johnson, Stephanie Johnson and Stacey Johnson; his great-grandchildren, Amber and Ashley Burden, Daniel, Kyle and Abbygale Johnson; his brother and sister, Ronald Johnson of Missouri and Luanne Pescek of Oregon; and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Einar’s life by gathering to visit at 10 a.m. on Monday morning, Nov. 17, in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main St. (Route 20), Waltham, where his funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
