Obituary: Victor Vega Espada, of Waltham

Victor Vega Espada died Wednesday, Nov. 5. He was 79.

Victor Vega Espada, of Waltham, passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, Nov. 5, 2014, surrounded by his loving family at the Maristhill Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Waltham at the age of 79.

Born on June 15, 1935, in Coamo, Puerto Rico, son of the late Romualdo Vega and Olimpia Espada, Victor came from Puerto Rico in 1970 and resided in Waltham, then moved to the Roxbury section of Boston, then to Chicago and back to Waltham where he resided for most of his life.

Victor loved to cook especially for people and for most of his life was a chef in the restaurant industry. He cared for people; he was generous and was well known in the Waltham Hispanic community for providing food at the Puerto Rican festival. Most often you would see Victor traveling Moody and Main streets in his scooter collecting cans and cleaning up the city.

He is survived by his loving and devoted children Betty Vega, Carmen Vega, Victor Vega Edwin Vega and Javier Vega, all of Waltham, Maria Vega and Maritza Vega, both of Marlborough, and Angel Sanchez of Boston. In addition, he is survived by three brothers and two sisters, all in Puerto Rico, 27 cherished grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a funeral service in celebration of Victor’s life at the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody St., WALTHAM, on Wednesday morning, Nov. 12, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Mount Feake Cemetery in Waltham. Visiting hours will be held in the Brasco & Sons Memorial Funeral Home on Tuesday, Nov. 11, from 4-9 p.m.
