Waltham School Bus Rollover: 10 Injured After Bus Connects With Pickup

Ten middle school students were treated for minor injuries and released from the hospital Wednesday evening.

WALTHAM, MA – A bus carrying 22 students from Ephraim Curtis Middle School in Sudbury rolled over a guardrail on I-95 southbound in Waltham Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened south of Route 20 at 12:47 p.m. The bus, a Thomas Built Saf-T-Liner, and a 2016 Silverado pickup truck collided, causing the bus to roll over the guardrail and onto an embankment leading to a stone ledge, state police said. The bus driver, a 54-year-old Everett man, the monitor, a 54-year-old man from Mattapan, and all 22 children were outside of the bus when police arrived.

Ten of the children were transported to the hospital with minor injuries; the remaining 12, as well as the bus driver and monitor, were evaluated at the hospital as a precaution, according to police.

Eight students were taken to Boston Children's Hospital, 10 were taken to Newton-Wellesley and four were transported to St. Elizabeth's, police said. All were released Wednesday evening.

No significant injuries were reported, and the driver of the pickup, a 29-year-old Belmont man, remained at the scene, police said.

So far, police have not charged anyone in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
