Severe Thunderstorms Possibly Headed to Waltham

The weather report calls for rain and wind for Waltham Thursday afternoon.

Thunderstorms with small hail and gusty winds are expected to hit the area Thursday afternoon.

The National Weather Service says a few severe thunderstorms could possibly impact the region, including Waltham, on Thursday with the most of the activity and strongest storms focused across eastern Massachusetts. This includes the Greater Boston area southward to Cape Cod.

As of 10:30 a.m. Thursday, showers and thunderstorms were already beginning to develop over northern New England and will move into southern New England Thursday afternoon.

NWS officials say areal coverage and intensity of these storms will peak between 3-7 p.m. before weakening toward and after sunset Thursday.

The main hazards of these storms will be hail and strong winds. In addition, these storms are expected to result in a rapid, but brief, temperature drop.
