Starbucks Planning A Waltham Location

Starbucks is planning to build a new location in North Waltham, according to two Waltham city councilors.

The national coffee chain is planning a new store in a proposed development at the intersection of Lexington Street and Trapelo Road, according to Waltham City Councilor George Darcy, whose ward encompasses the project. City Councilor Edmund Tarallo, who has a city planning background, confirmed the plans to Waltham Patch.

“In the application … they specifically named it … as a Starbucks,” Tarallo told Waltham Patch.

The store would the city's first Starbucks.

A public hearing about the development will be held on Monday, April 23 at 8 p.m. at Waltham City Hall. Specifically, the Council will discuss upon the developer's special permit request to reduce the number of parking spaces, have a drive-thru window for a bank and serve fast food, according to Tarallo.

A bank, Asian restaurant and other retail stores are also proposed for the 9,000 square foot site, which used to be a Shell gas station, according to Tarallo. Darcy said Daniel Uyu is named as the developer. About 4,800 square feet is reserved for "hard goods" tenants, and the remainder would be for Starbucks the bank and Asian restaurant, according to Tarallo.

Uyu bought the property in July of 2009, according to Darcy. Workers have recently torn the gas station down, he said.
