Temporary Police Station at Fernald Has One Key Opponent: the Police

A Tribune report says police unions are opposed to the idea of a temporary station at the Fernald site.

WALTHAM, MA – Ahead of proposed plans to renovate the Waltham Police Station, the Fernald site has been suggested as a temporary home for the police department. But according to a Waltham News Tribune report, that proposal faces opposition from one key group – the police themselves.

Local police unions argue that many officers are against moving the department to Fernald due to the conditions of the buildings, the Tribune reported. A temporary move would be necessary if approximately $8 million in funding for renovations is approved by the city council.

But not everyone is on board with merely renovating the station. According to the Tribune, city councilor Paul Brasco suggested exploring other building options, including an all-new Waltham Police Station.
