UPDATED: Renovations Of Upper Moody Street Delayed Until Monday

UPDATED, 7:45 p.m., April 25: According to Brown, the start of renovations have been delayed due to a contractor issue. Work is set to start on Monday.

If all goes according to plan, a small part of upper Moody Street will look much nicer.

Renovations on 561-569 Moody St. are scheduled to start on Wednesday, April 25, according to Kenneth Brown, whose family owns the building. The building currently houses the and among other businesses.

"We know its been an eyesore,” Brown, the Executive Broker of State, whose office sit across from the project building, told Waltham Patch last week. “We just want to start cleaning up the area."

Renovations are scheduled to be completed in one month, Brown said.

While Brown said he does not currently have any new tenants lined up for the building, Compustar will be moving into 567 portion of the building, from its former 565 location. The Tiki House portion of the building will not be renovated, Brown said.

Once completed, Brown said he would like to have a bakery locate in the building, but said it is "virtually impossible," without requesting a change of zoning rules. The City Council would have to approve such a change, according to Brown. 

Brown also ruled out several types of potential tentants, including, nail salons, hair salons, barbershops, a conveinence store or massage parlor.

City Councilor hailed the moves saying that section of Moody Street needed improvement.

 “A lot of them are older buildings,” he told Waltham Patch.

Logan also recalled that the Tiki House used to be Mays Bakery. The tiled entrance that reads "Mays," is still visible at the Tiki House entrance.

“There is nothing like the smell you get when you walk into a real bakery when they are making pastries,” Logan said.
