Veterans Day on Waltham Common features The Soldier's Creed

WWII Veteran Dan Desmond and his family are joined by Mayor Jeanette McCarthy following the Veterans Day Ceremony on the Waltham Common. Dan Desmond served in France during WWII and is 98 years young.

VETERANS HONORED ON WALTHAM COMMON

In the annual solemn ceremony held at the Waltham Common’s Circle Of Remembrance on Veeran's Day, tributes honoring Waltham veterans were presented by brick, wreath and red rose with this year's addition of The Soldier's Creed read by Master of Ceremonies, John Reed.

The eleven o’clock gathering, well attended and silent was ushered into the Circle of Remembrance by Waltham's Police and Fire Honor Guard with Watertown's Sacred Heart Knights of Columbus also in procession.

The emotional remembrance includes the solemn reading of names of this past year's recently deceased veterans, and the veteran's names for whom new bricks were dedicated.

Wind whipped flags and heavy hearts overlooked the laying of the ceremonial wreath at the top of the celebrated circle with names engraved into red bricks.

Red roses were distributed for families to lay on new bricks dedicated to their loved ones serving in all branches of the military. A collation was generously held at the American Legion following the solemn ceremony.
