Waltham Animal Control Rescues Raccoon Trapped In Car Grill
Animal control officers made their second animal rescue of the week, this time in the form of one of the agency's "most unusual rescues."
WALTHAM, MA — It's been an extremely busy week for Waltham animal control officials, who made their second animal rescue in as many days on Thursday.
Officials were able to remove a raccoon from the front grill of a car on Thursday in what officials said was "definitely one of our most unusual rescues."
Officials said a resident came to the station on Thursday with what they assumed would be a dead animal stuck in the front of their car.

"He had hit the raccoon the previous evening and didn't think any further on it," officials said. "The next day he thought he heard a weird scratching noise coming from the car."
When animal control officials looked, the raccoon was alive. When the animal was struck by the car, the front grill cracked and trapped the raccoon inside.

"With the owner's assistance, we managed to extricate the little guy...alive and well, with an apparent minor leg injury," officials said.
"He is now being cared for with a wildlife rehabilitator and we anticipate he will recover and be able to be released."
